Bogus ‘Domain Name Expiration’ Bill
July 25, 2010 | In: News, Tips & Advice

‘As a courtesy to domain name holders, we are sending you this notification of the domain name registration that is due to expire in the next few months.,
A number of clients have contacted me recently with concerns following receipt of an ‘official looking’ bill from a company called the Domain Renewal Group.
Dressed up to look like a normal invoice or reminder, these letters are in fact just a simple invitation to transfer and renew your domain name with them – albeit for a rather extortionate fee.
The Notice is NOT a bill! You are under no obligation to pay the amount requested in the ‘notice’, it is an ‘easy means of payment’ should you wish to accept their offer.
A typical .net domain name usually cost between £5.00 – £10.00. The majority of reputable website hosting companies allow you to ‘transfer’ your domain name free of charge.
The Domain Renewal Group (as a courtesy!) invite you to transfer and renew your domain name with them for a fee of £20.00 – £65.00! This fee does NOT include hosting for your website!
Do I need to pay this bill?
Absolutely not! Just ignore the letter.
